Highly respected commercial vehicle industry parts executive, Glen Crompton, has joined DAF Trucks as Parts Marketing Manager with responsibility for DAF genuine parts and for TRP – the company’s highly successful, all-makes truck-and-trailer parts brand. Glen replaces long-serving Stewart Davies who retires from the company.
Switch International has added four New DAF vehicles to its fleet at the operation’s Andover base. A subsidiary of South Wales haulier, TWT Logistics Group, Switch runs a long-distance haulage business for customers along the M4 corridor, as well as a pallet network operation that includes regular Hazchem work, in the South Coast region.
DAF Trucks is partnering with VDL to release a first series of CF Electric trucks into operation with leading customers in the course of this year. The vehicles feature state-of-the-art VDL E-Power Technology for zero emissions and ultra-low noise. These field test trucks will be manufactured by DAF and the full electric installation will be completed by VDL Groep, demonstrating the strong cooperation between both companies in the field of electrification of commercial vehicles.
DAF Trucks’ in-house finance division, PACCAR Financial, has reacted quickly to ease concerns of ‘financially stranded’ DAF operators with rental agreements with TOM Vehicle Rental after the Airdrie-based, nationwide rental firm entered into administration at the end of March.
Strong business growth, which has seen the operator double its turnover in the last three years, has seen RD Avery invest around £¼ m in a DAF New XF 530 FAS recovery unit. The Super Space cab of the rear lift 6x2 includes a host of driver safety and comfort features, while its Boniface body and the latest Mk.6 ‘K-Boom’ lifting equipment make it one of the most sophisticated recovery units in the UK.

London Concrete has added another 11 DAF 8x4s to its operations to help it meet the forthcoming requirement for Euro-6 emissions compliance in London, significantly increasing the DAF share of the total fleet. The New CF 450 ‘FAD’ 8x4 mixers are going into operation at a number of the pre-mixed concrete supplier’s 12 state-of-the-art production plants across the capital.
The waste and recycling operation of the diverse Martin Group of Companies, based near Alfreton, Derbyshire, has taken one DAF CF 460 FAT six-wheel draw bar units and two CF 460 FAD eight-wheel hook-loader as completion of its 15-strong order for DAF trucks in 2017. The vehicles are partly for fleet replacement, but overall the HW Martin Waste fleet has grown by some 35% this year.
